The story of finding my wedding dress(es)

I want to tell you about my experience of finding my DREAM wedding dress(es!)

It’s only now that I can share these photos!

Photos I never even had on my own phone because it would have been too dangerous 😬

Photos that every time I saw one of my beautiful bridesmaids I was like ‘show me, show me, show me!' (literally EVERY time I saw them!)

They say when you know you know.

And my friends let me tell you, that was most definitely true in my case!

My gorgeous bride tribe had arranged the most precious day for me.  And it is a day I will hold in my heart forever.

They had organised one bridal appointment in the morning in the most exquisite boutique and another appointment in the afternoon in another bridal shop and a lovely lunch in between.

I had no idea where we were going.

I was met by two of my girls at my house in the morning where I was presented with a bridal hairband and a veil (Scott had tears in his eyes bless him!)

And then whisked away to Ava Rose Hamilton in Colne.

More of my bridesmaids met us there and that day..  THAT day!

I had one of the most memorable experiences of my life ❤

Though I have been bridal dress shopping many (many!) times as a bridesmaid, I had never tried a wedding dress on myself.  And so I had no idea what would suit me, what style I wanted or even liked, I had no clue what kind of dress was right for me.

So, together with our stylist, we chose dresses of every style: princess, boho, fitted, mermaid..

Big, small, I tried them ALL

And I absolutely LOVED every single moment.  I felt like a princess!  I felt like a bride.

But, with every dress I tried on, whilst they were all stunning, there was something I would have changed about each of them.  One by one as I tried them on, though I loved them all and could appreciate how special & beautiful each one was, I was like ‘yes but….’

There was always a but.

And then..

My beautiful yellow bridesmaid (and all round epic wedding planner The September Bride) asked if she could choose a dress for me to try.

We were getting close to the end of our appointment.  I hadn’t had ‘that moment’ yet

And then…

She brought it in

I looked at it

I kinda knew 😍

And then…

I put it on

*Silence*

This time there were no ‘yes buts’

This time there were no words

No words and lots of tears 😭

I walked out of the fitting room and into the space where my girls were

There were more tears!  Lots more tears 😭😭

And a whole lot of certainty & knowing & feeling that THIS WAS THE ONE

I couldn’t take my eyes off it

And then I couldn’t take it off!  I wanted to keep it on my body forever 🥰

My sister said, with the others it looked like Jenny wearing a wedding dress, with this one it is like Jenny is wearing HER wedding dress.

And whilst of course it didn’t fit properly just yet, it didn’t matter. 

I had found the one.

That feeling, I will never ever forget.

It was like a FULL BODY, full heart, full soul YES

And that my friends, is how you make decisions.

Not by trying to figure it out

Not by thinking & overthinking

Not by using your head at all

But by using your heart!

And right there in that moment my heart told me YES.

This is THE dress!

The one I will feel like my absolute best self in

The one I will marry my husband in (again!)

The one I will stand beside my rainbow of bridesmaid in

I found it

And then later that afternoon, I found another perfect dress that became my Mountain Dress!

Why?

Because my heart said I needed two wedding dresses 😝

And when my heart speaks, I listen!

A few weeks later we went back and brought my Mum.

It was an experience perhaps even more emotional than the first one!

Because this time the woman whose opinion mattered the most was here

The Mother of the Bride

She had no idea what to expect

It was an unexpected dress!

And then she saw

And then she knew too

It was absolutely, categorically THE ONE

If I could explain how I knew I would

If I could put it into words for you, a formula or a plan

I would

But I can’t

Some things (usually the best things!) in life require no explanation at all

So all I will say is this

If you have decisions to make right now, as much as you possibly can, take your cues from your heart

Your head might not agree at all (heck my head was like HOW MUCH???!) but when your heart knows something, it knows ❤

And if there is one thing I know for sure, you can trust the knowing of your heart
